Oh, how the times are changing! Just think… in a few years, Amazon Alexa will be your best friend and assistant around the home.
The rise of voice assistants, such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa, is a much talked about topic. Humans are busy, so we are constantly looking for ways to make our lives easier than before to save time and energy for more important tasks.
This is evidenced with over 100 million smart speakers in homes across the United States alone. In 2018, 60% of people who own a voice assistant use it to ask general questions and 57% use it to find out the weather and stream music (Comscore via Brainium). Beyond this, it seems people tend to use it predominantly for consumer-related functions such as ordering products or food.
While these functions are useful, they are still more of a novelty. At the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Amazon Alexa and Google Home appeared on a range of appliances and devices, from slow cookers and refrigerators to smart toilets and showers. It’s easy to see the direction voice assistants are heading and they’re going to become increasingly more useful as they begin to be able to control more things in your home. As they become more useful, adoption will increase and you can expect “nearly 8 billion voice assistants to be in use by 2023” (Juniper Research via Search Engine Land).
It’s weird to think that telling our kettle, fridge or lights what to do will be customary soon.
Not only this but you’ll see voice assistants go beyond these actions in a few years. They’ll be used for complex functions such as controlling your home to deliver an enhanced user-experience. Picture your entire home, with all devices, appliances, lights and more, linked and integrated with each other on one system, which can be controlled with voice.
What we’re trying to say is, with voice assistants becoming more widely used and adopted, Quantify is heading in the right direction. Our technology will do more than tell you the weather or play you a song, like voice assistants do today.
What do we mean? Well…
- You could leave your house and say “Alexa, I’m leaving now” and all the lights and standby power will switch off, saving you time and money on the electricity bill.
- You could sit down to watch a movie and say “Alexa, it’s movie time” and the scene will set – selected lights will dim, blinds will close and the TV will switch on to Netflix.
- You could surprise your significant other in the bedroom and say “Alexa, it’s sexy time” and the scene will set – the lights will dim, blinds will close and mood music will turn on to give you the ultimate experience.
With our tech being integrated with Amazon Alexa, you’ll be able to completely control your home with voice and make your life a whole lot better. Your voice assistant will fall seamlessly into your home life without you even thinking about it.
